I’ve been thinking lately about just what sort of “god” might have created our universe. Mind you, that doesn’t mean I’m leaning into theism. Living in a nursing home leaves me with just a bunch of idle time. My mind has been wandering off into strange places. So let’s do a little thought experiment, shall we?
Since the 1950s, many people in the United States have sought to build a more united and civil society. That these noble efforts have largely failed is obvious. What’s less obvious is the Why and How of this failure of many Americans to behave like responsible adults. We can talk about politics, money, power, love, hate, sex and religion until we’re blue in the face. But none of that gets to the root cause. I am so tired of American Christians and their self-important nonsense. If they’d actually study their bibles instead of just assuming everything their pastors tell them is true, they’d likely reach the same conclusion that I reached years ago. The Bible is a book of filth, violence, misogyny and vulgarity. And most importantly, there’s little truth to be found within it. One only needs apply bit of common sense to most of the Bible’s stories to see just how impossible they are.
So I’ve been sitting here in Denny’s for an hour *after* finishing my burger. Surfing the news, FB, IMDB and Reddit. And in the back of my tired mind I’ve been stewing over several bits of unrelated bullshit, upon which I will now expound. Mind you, I’m not proclaiming anything. I’m merely opinionating. Christians are programmed to believe that not only is their religion the only “true” religion, but that everyone else is involved in a Satanic plot to destroy Christianity and take over the world (or something like that anyway). It’s getting so you can’t open your mouth anymore without someone taking offense. Everyone it seems is feeling persecuted. Gays and Christians are fussing over rainbows and flags. Conservatives and Liberals are fighting over just about everything (with Libertarians caught between them). Regular citizens are afraid to walk outside because there are so many street thugs waiting for a chance to cut’em up or shoot’em just to get their wallets. Female athletes are rightfully pissed off because males are getting their peckers chopped off then competing in women’s sports. Continue reading
