Facebook is rapidly becoming a repository for dimestore philosophy, uninformed political opinions (both left and right) and truly frightening religious zealotry. It’s everywhere. And it’s worsening daily. But the more worrisome part of this is the fact that the people posting this mess aren’t just on Facebook. They’re out there in the world. They believe their own bullshit. They breed. They vote. They influence others.

Signal Events
There are signal events that divide and change our lives. If you live in the south like I do, there is “Before Katrina” and “After Katrina.” We all remember what we were doing and where we were when Katrina made landfall. Millions of lives were irrevocably changed and many were lost. My mother and I were chatting earlier today and spoke about how the attack on Pearl Harbor in 1941 was another such event. My nation was forever transformed on that day.
Choosing Hell?
Y’all bear with me here, OK? I’m a little bit pissed off and disgusted in the extreme. Grotesque memes like this one are becoming all too common these days. Christians are losing the battle for the minds of the people and they know it. But despicable, threatening images like this one can serve to frighten the gullible into belief “just in case.” The tactic is morally bankrupt and rooted in lies (Christians call it “scripture”).Continue reading
Was It Something I Said?
I’ve been debating on whether and how to share something for several days. Those of you who are often my sounding boards shouldn’t be offended that we haven’t talked about it. It’s just something I needed to puzzle out on my own. It was somewhat awkward and I wasn’t certain if there was even any benefit to putting it out there. But in the end, given the often raucous debates flying around between theists and atheists I decided it was worth sharing.

Reasons To Smile
Got a chance to take some nice pics. First in an Amish area in PA, then at a car show the next day. Lots of classic muscle cars. Hope you enjoy the pics.Pushing Up Daisies
Cue creepy woo-woo music…
Late that night, Sally was awakened by a strange whispering sound outside her window. Unnerved, she dressed and slipped outside to find the source of the haunting sound. Her heart leapt into her throat as the whispering voice began calling her name.
“Saaallly… Saaallly… Why did you do this to me?”
Sally fell to her knees beside the flower bed and began to cry. “Oh Grandmother,” she wailed, “I’m so sorry I composted you.” It was at that moment that the flowers reached for her…

Regarding Melania
OK, let me first say that I am NOT here to disrespect the First Lady. After a rocky start she has done all anyone has the right to expect of her to gain our respect. But I would like to have a frank discussion about who she is and how she got to where she is today. Not to question whether she should be First Lady, but about who she was before and the metamorphosis she has undergone.

The Lava Lamp Project
So the other day I got the crazy idea I’d build my own GIF animator. Actually wasn’t that hard because I was using a command line tool called GraphicsMagick. No that’s not a typo. They spell it with “ck.” Anyhow, I built a little UI with MS Visual Studio so that I could select the images via a file dialog, set the delay & dispose properties, and then automate writing the command script from Visual Basic.

The Eyes Have It
Alexandria Ocasio-Cortez has got some seriously scary eyes. And I got to wondering how those eyes would look on other famous people. You know, like how years ago a few people were trying out Jimmy Carter’s toothy smile on other presidents. Anyway, I fired up Paint.Net (my graphics editor of choice) and abused a few images of celebrities and politicians with the “Crazy Eyes.”
All the images use the eyes from the photo above.
Holier Than Who?
Forgive me while I rant just a little. Having grown up in a Christian (Baptist) family, I have a lot of Christian friends. Some of us debate on occasion but it’s always with respect. Okay, usually with respect. Well, mostly anyway.
But a lifelong friend of our family (I’m not naming names), who is also a Baptist preacher recently posted the following on FB:
