Would You Kill For God?

Man with chains on wristsI hear it and see it all the time: Christians claiming that God “tells them” or “guides them” in some way. Usually they describe it as a strong feeling from within. On social media I see all these declarations about how people want God to guide them and protect them. It’s sickening to see people abasing themselves before a non-existent tyrant in hopes of currying favor. And whether they realize it or not, that’s all they’re (you’re?) doing.

Way back when, God supposedly told this guy Abraham to kill his son, Isaac to show his loyalty to God. So Abraham led Isaac out into the wilderness, tied him to an altar and was about to cut his son’s throat when an angel suddenly appeared and told Abraham that never mind, God was convinced. He even provided a ram to take Isaac’s place on the altar.

Poor Abraham. The guy must’ve been deluded to the point of insanity. Why else would he sacrifice his son to please the voices in his head?

And poor Isaac. I wonder what he was thinking in those final seconds before his rescue? Most likely he was thinking that his Dad was bug-eyed nuts. And he would have been right.

Poor ram. He was just out there munching on some scrub. Talk about wrong place, wrong time…..

So I have a question….

Abe and IsaacAre you guided by God? Do you follow God’s commands? If God suddenly tells you to murder your child (or a sibling or whomever), will you do it? Don’t sit there and say that God will never ask you to do that because according to your Bible HE DID EXACTLY THAT to Abraham.

Slightly different circumstances, but consider the case of Andrea Yates…

While in prison, Yates stated that she had considered killing the children for two years, adding that they thought she was not a good mother and claiming that her sons were developing improperly. She told her jail psychiatrist: “It was the seventh deadly sin. My children weren’t righteous. They stumbled because I was evil. The way I was raising them, they could never be saved. They were doomed to perish in the fires of hell.” – Wikipedia

So she killed them so they’d go to Heaven. Mother of the Year. In fairness, Ms Yates was wildly unbalanced. She had a long history of mental problems. Was “God” telling her to kill her kids to save them? We may never know. But what about Abraham? Was he not running around hearing voices in his head thinking that the Creator of the Universe was speaking especially to him? What a fucking narcissist.

So…. Does God talk to you? Would you kill at God’s command? You don’t have to answer me. But in answering yourself, if you must hesitate for even a second before answering with a resounding NO, then please do seek professional help. And no, not from your pastor. I said *professional* help. Seek help from someone who does not find it necessary to pray to that same God for guidance. You know, someone with proper license and certification who doesn’t need a magic sky daddy to guide you.

See y’all next time. – – ABB 🙂

Well said. That these cultists think that their imaginary friend tells them things is rather disturbing. I just had an anti-choice pastor give me his excuse on why he doesn’t adopt disabled children as his god hasn’t told him to do so.

How terribly predictable! Look, when you believe there’s an invisible guy up in the sky telling you what to do or not do, your veracity needs to be questioned in the most rational manner.
