As time goes by and humanity continues to explore and expand our understanding of the universe, it becomes increasingly obvious that the Abrahamic god is no more real than Vishnu or Odin. I have over time become comfortable with the idea that there are no gods. The numerous failed prophesies (like Tyre, LB), the physically impossible stories (like the Flood) and other absurdities make it obvious that the Bible is nothing but the ramblings of primitive men trying unsuccessfully to explain the world around them.
We know the universe is between 13 and 14 billion years old (not 6000). We know humanity evolved from an ancient ancestor. And no, we didn’t “come from monkeys.” As I have tried to point out to you before (and provided sources), evidence found in geology, anthropology, archeology and other disciplines absolutely prove that Noah’s flood did not (and cannot) happen.
Archaeologists from both secular and religious backgrounds have concluded that the Exodus did not happen. Maladies once believed to be evil spirits were discovered to be caused by microbes. Epilepsy is not demon possession. And yet with all of our advances, theists continue to cling to myth and superstition. It demonstrates a complete lack of critical thinking combined with cowardice. Christians are by and large scared witless of asking the “wrong” questions.
Ghosts? Yes. Dead people supposedly “living” in Heaven. A reanimated dead person is by definition a ghost.
Zombies? Yes. Supposedly the dead dug themselves up after their Jesus was resurrected and went wandering about Jerusalem, doubtlessly scaring the bejabbers out of the locals. By definition, these would be zombies. [and if something this crazy actually happened, it’s be a bigger story than even the crucifixion itself]
Now let’s get to the part of his reply that really jerks my chain. He said: “…I would argue that in the bigger picture He is attempting to rescue folks whose *sin* sends them to eternal torment…”
This is nothing but the work of a Christian apologist trying to make excuses for his merciless, graceless God. No one sends themselves to eternal torment. YOUR GOD created Hell. YOUR GOD set the parameters for who goes there and who does not. YOUR GOD made the decision that those who, in their short time in this world, do not believe shall be subject to an eternity of fiery torment. Infinite agony for finite “sins?” Not even Stalin deserves millions of years of punishment for a few decades of being an asshole.
And it’s all false anyway. Who are you to stand before your congregation and spew such nonsense? Who are you to frighten small children into thinking that they’re somehow broken or defective and only following the path of Christian hate can spare them their well-deserved descent into Hell? Shame on you sir. You are as I said a person in power. Not the Pope perhaps, but you are a leader of men and women. People hang onto your every word when you preach. It is as I said earlier: Inexcusable.
Christianity is a blood cult. “Saved by the blood,” “Washed in the blood,” “covered in the blood…” Your Holy Communion symbolizes eating the flesh and drinking the blood of a man who supposedly died over 2000 years ago. Or, in the case of the Catholics, they believe that the crackers and juice actually transform, so that they’re literally engaging in cannibalism. That’s just plain creepy.
If your god was real and He could create a universe then He would have the ability to make His existence obvious to all of us. He has not, and due to the horrors that He has supposedly both allowed and committed over the centuries, I judge Him as being unworthy of worship. Your god’s sole redeeming quality is that like all other gods, He does not exist. It’s high time for Christians to face this unpleasant fact and climb out of the rabbit hole.

I think the most incredible of the ridiculous claims of “Christians” is Jesus actually saying to his followers to eat his flesh and drink his blood! No Torah-observant Jew, no matter how “liberal” in their level of observance would ever utter such a disgusting order! I’m sure his original followers, all Jews themselves, would have walked out of the room on him without hesitation, IF – a big IF here – they didn’t stone him to death on the spot for suggesting such a vile and disgusting idea! Jesus is completely disconnected from so-called “Christianity” and fundamentalists and evangelicals are simply too deluded to even understand the inherent flaws of their own mythology. Once you poison your mind with religion, nothing is “off the table”, so to speak; you can claim anything!
Now that the “rapture” didn’t happen (AGAIN! for the over 200th TIME and by so-called “legitimate sources” including some Popes!) they’re already consoling themselves with discussions over the differences in the calendar, miss-readings of the texts, etc., anything but the outlandish craziness of the idea to begin with!!
