No, God Didn’t Do It

RepentA lot of Christians are babbling on social media that the California fires and the extreme winter weather are a part of God’s punishment for various offenses against God. People, fire happens. Weather happens. Some of the fires are suspected arson attacks. One is believed to be the result of an Edison powerline getting knocked down by the Santa Ana winds. These winds create extreme hot and dry conditions and as such raise the fire hazards dramatically. The extreme cold on the way is not a unique event.

Hot & Windy…

“The Santa Ana winds, occasionally referred to as the devil winds, are strong, extremely dry katabatic winds that originate inland and affect coastal Southern California and northern Baja California. They originate from cool, dry high-pressure air masses in the Great Basin.

Santa Ana winds are known for the hot, dry weather that they bring in autumn (often the hottest of the year), but they can also arise at other times of the year. They often bring the lowest relative humidities of the year to coastal Southern California, and “beautifully clear skies”. These low humidities, combined with the warm, compressionally-heated air mass, plus high wind speeds, create critical fire weather conditions, and fan destructive wildfires.”

Catastrophic fires are frequent occurrences in southern CA. The situation is exacerbated by irresponsible, politically-motivated forestry regulations and a glaring lack of funding for those same programs.

The Polar Vortex Explained…

“When stable, the polar vortex remains closer to the North Pole, constrained by a strong polar jet stream which keeps the cold air from moving into the continents below. As Paul Ullrich, an associate professor of regional climate modeling at UC Davis explains, the polar jet stream is sustained by two things: a temperature difference between the warmer mid-latitudes and the polar region, and the Earth’s rotation.

When the temperature difference across the jet stream is large, it tends to be strong and keeps the polar vortex stable. But when the difference is small, the jet stream tends to be weaker and more susceptible to twisting and curving. When it becomes unstable, the polar vortex can break off, at times expanding as far south as Florida.”

The vortex drops southward quite often. It’s a normal and well-documented event. There is no reason to think the coming winter weather (Jan 2025) is some sort of Divine retribution.

But if you believe that the god you love, fear and praise would actually wreak such a savage “punishment” upon the mostly innocent people of southern Cal and the Eastern Seaboard, I’d say you need to do some soul searching. If your god is real (doubtful) and He would actually do such a thing then He is an immoral monster. He is unworthy of your praise and certainly unworthy of mine.

See y’all mo’ later.

Is there any group of people more repulsive, more hateful, more hypocritical than Christians? It never fails to amaze me, and I am never short of words about it. And these are the miscreant, self-deluded, creeps that wants to run the country, and as a theocracy no less!

They are just laughable and we need to continue to demonstrate this to them and, more importantly, everyone else in this crumbling experiment.

Most Christians I know are honest and (mostly) sensible people. Yes they have weird beliefs. I once had those beliefs when I was quite young but managed to deconvert and join the real world. Better education and enforcement of church-state separation are key to turning things around, imo. Thanks for taking the time to comment.
