Regarding the fires in California…Let’s compare the difference between doing something and doing nothing. In this case, “nothing” means hunkering down and praying to your sky daddy instead of actually helping those in need. “Nothing” means saying a lot of flowery words that are not backed by any action.
According to Fox News:
As of Saturday morning, the Palisades Fire is 11% contained, while the Eaton Fire is 15% contained, according to the California Department of Forestry and Fire Protection.
Firefighters have contained 90% of the Kenneth Fire, 76% of the Hurst Fire and all of the Lidia Fire.
The ferocious blazes have destroyed more than 12,300 homes and buildings and left at least 16 dead in their wake, a number officials expect to rise.
Doing Nothing
Pope Francis is praying for the victims of the wildfires and for an end to the destruction, the Vatican said on Saturday.
“Saddened by the loss of life and the widespread destruction caused by the fires near Los Angeles, His Holiness Pope Francis assures you and the community affected by this tragedy of his spiritual closeness,” the Archbishop of Los Angeles, Jose H. Gomez, said in a statement shared by the pontiff.
It continued, “Entrusting the souls of the deceased to the loving mercy of Almighty God, His Holiness sends his heartfelt condolences to those who mourn their loss. He likewise prays for the relief efforts of the emergency services personnel, and imparts his blessing to all as a pledge of consolation and strength in the Lord.” —Fox News
The Vatican is sitting on untold billions of dollars of wealth. Have they contributed to any of the relief efforts in California? And just what damn good is his “spiritual closeness” supposed to do? This arrogant old bastard thinks so highly of himself that he actually believes his words will carry some physical weight. He actually thinks he’s accomplishing something. No, Pope Francis, you haven’t done a damn thing except sit on your pompous antique ass and toss word salads.
Doing Something
I’m not a huge fan of the Republicans, but let’s give credit where it’s due.
Texas Gov. Greg Abbott on Saturday announced he would be sending firefighters and firefighting resources to California to assist with the ongoing wildfires.
Along with more than 135 firefighters, it will include emergency management and medical personnel, more than 45 fire engines, ambulances, command vehicles, and equipment.
“Our hearts grieve with the entire Los Angeles community as they continue to respond to these destructive wildfires,” Abbott said.
He continued, “Texans know all too well the devastation wildfires can cause to our communities, and our country is stronger when we come together in times of crisis. I directed the Texas Division of Emergency Management to deploy firefighters, fire engines, and firefighting equipment to help our fellow Americans battle these wildfires. — Fox News
While Pope Francis is busy playing with his gold, Governor Abbott is actually sending resources to California to help. And it’s certainly not just Texas. Other states are also pitching in with resources and personnel. That’s the difference between something and nothing. The Pope’s words will have zero benefit for Californians, Catholic or otherwise. The actions of the states sending aid to southern Cal will save lives and property.
If you ever see me in need, don’t pray for me. That’d be embarrassing. Instead, send me five bucks or make me a ham sandwich. Do something. Because that’s what I’ll do for you.
Until next time, y’all. ![]()
