OK, Merry Christmas, Happy Hanukka and a Cheerful Winter Solstice to all. I personally decided this year to just let the whole “Holiday Season” pass me by with as little drama as possible. I’m stocked up on groceries so no need to deal with the crazy-long checkout lines at Kroger. And you can bet your butt I’m not getting anywhere near Walmart anytime soon.
I had Thanksgiving dinner with some close friends but that’s the extent of my holiday activities this year. I did make an early-AM run to Kroger when they opened this morning to grab coffee filters. Just past 6:00am and there were already lines at the self-checkout and the one register that was open.
Well anyway I’ve been seeing more and more crazy content on social media and youtube from evangelical Christians. They’re quite often pleading to their Jesus for things that any thinking person knows ain’t gonna happen. And of course there’s the usual horseshit about how “Jesus is the [only] reason for the season.” I get so tired of that. There are a number of worthy observances in December, many of them far older than Christmas. They claim (via memes) that someone (who?) is telling them they have to say “Happy Holidays” instead of “Merry Christmas.” And then they tell us that “It’s Merry Christmas, Not Happy Holidays.” What hypocrites.
And I wonder… these loony birds who post these ridiculous prayers for all to see on social media, are they even aware of how their Bible tells them to pray?
5 “And when you pray, do not be like the hypocrites, for they love to pray standing in the synagogues and on the street corners to be seen by others. Truly I tell you, they have received their reward in full. 6 But when you pray, go into your room, close the door and pray to your Father, who is unseen. Then your Father, who sees what is done in secret, will reward you. 7 And when you pray, do not keep on babbling like pagans, for they think they will be heard because of their many words. 8 Do not be like them, for your Father knows what you need before you ask him. – Matthew 6:5-8
And of course they still want to push their beliefs on the rest of us, all the while claiming that it’s those baby-eating, Satan-loving, cannibalistic Atheists who’re trying to change America into some kind of hell-scape devoid of anything but evil. And that’s how many of them honestly see things, because they’re brainwashed to believe anything that doesn’t glorify their god must be darkest evil. And by the way, I’ve never eaten a baby, with the exception of some milk-fed veal. 😉
So for you Christians who are still here (if any), please tell me what you think of the following:
- One should strive to act with compassion and empathy toward all creatures in accordance with reason.
- The struggle for justice is an ongoing and necessary pursuit that should prevail over laws and institutions.
- One’s body is inviolable, subject to one’s own will alone.
- The freedoms of others should be respected, including the freedom to offend. To willfully and unjustly encroach upon the freedoms of another is to forgo one’s own.
- Beliefs should conform to one’s best scientific understanding of the world. One should take care never to distort scientific facts to fit one’s beliefs.
- People are fallible. If one makes a mistake, one should do one’s best to rectify it and resolve any harm that might have been caused.
- Every tenet is a guiding principle designed to inspire nobility in action and thought. The spirit of compassion, wisdom, and justice should always prevail over the written or spoken word.

So does the above sound reasonable? Just curious. They’re the Seven Tenets of the Satanic Temple. And no I’m not a Satanist. For that matter neither are the members of TST. It’s a political organization that promotes freedom of expression using old Beelzebub as a figurehead. A bit ill-advised in my opinion, but that’s just me. I do however, agree with the Tenets. They make a helluva lot more sense than the Ten Commandments.
And why is it that Christians are so determined to undermine the freedoms of others? You wish to deny women control of their bodies. You try to tell others who they can or cannot love. You try to force public schools to lie about the origins of the universe. You attempt to devalue our lives by insisting that there is a utopian existence awaiting us after we die, but that we must follow YOUR RULES in this life to avoid eternal punishment. Such deceit should be a criminal offense.
You own the majority of the federal government and most of the state and local governments. You own the Supreme Court. And yet you whine about how you’re oppressed and persecuted. You won’t be content until the constitutional republic our Founders built is reduced to a mindless theocracy. The only hope the rest of us have is that your slowly dwindling numbers start to dwindle a bit faster. We can hope.
