God’s Women

One of the most irksome things (to me at least) about the Abrahamic religions is its deeply-rooted misogyny. These religions started out dominated by men, and women ended up being the scapegoats for all of man’s weaknesses. Eve supposedly tempted Adam in the garden, so the fall of humanity and the expulsion from the Garden must be the fault of women. And never mind the fact that sex and immodesty were considered taboo. Once Adam and Eve ate the forbidden fruit, they straightaway stitched some fig leaves together to cover themselves. How the heck is it wrong for a husband and wife to see each other naked? Fishing At The Gin Pond

Since retiring recently, I’ve been reminiscing (like old folks do) about my younger days. And I’ve been thinking about how different it was to be a kid back then (I’m 65) compared to the present. Invariably when I have these thoughts I end up thinking about my maternal grandparents, Fred and Autie. They were two of the sweetest, wisest people I’ve ever known although I was too immature back then to fully appreciate that fact. Continue reading
