I make no claims of being a sage or any sort of expert. But based upon what I have observed over the last few decades, I honestly believe humanity is a failed species. We are self-destructing at an amazing rate and that rate appears to be accelerating. It’s only matter of time before nature shrugs its powerful shoulders and we vanish as if we never existed. Why such a negative prognosis? Let’s take a look…
It’s All About Mental Health
Around the world we are seeing more and more instances of mental health issues. According to the latest research from the World Health Organization, as many as one in seven teens are suffering from mental health issues globally. Humanity’s overall mental health is failing. Who knows? Maybe mine is failing, too. Allow me to present my case for why humanity’s days are numbered, and why it’s all tied to humanity’s failing mental faculties:

Does anyone believe that the prevalence of mass murders in the USA and elsewhere is unrelated to mental health? Does a mentally stable person walk into a school with a firearm and slaughter children? Does a sane person use an SUV to plow into a crowd of people and crush them beneath its wheels? The problem does not lie with a killer’s weapon of choice. It is the mental state of the killer. The violence is all too common, and it’s occurring more and more often around the world.
Some claim that we have to get guns out of the hands of private citizens. Ok, what about those who use knives? Vehicles? Blunt objects? Killers will find a way to kill regardless. To cure an ailment one must treat the cause. Simply treating the symptoms is not a cure. People of sound mind, with rare exception, don’t commit mass murder.
It’s the same with such nonsense as the “knockout game” that was prevalent a few years ago. You could make a case for poor upbringing and a lack of morals. But people of sound mind know right from wrong. Those teens who were gleefully knocking people unconscious did so because they took a perverse pleasure in hurting others. That’s not a sign of a stable mind.
Same goes for the occasional nutsack who locks himself inside a house with a hostage or two. News reports nearly always show that such people had mental health issues. And far too often these incidents end in tragedy.
Identity Crisis

Who the hell are we? What are we? For whatever reason a large segment of the world’s population seems to think that sex/gender is a matter of opinion. And the behavior of these people is becoming more bizarre by the day. They make claims of being the opposite gender of that defined by their anatomy as if it were an act of rebellion. I’ve seen some of these nutballs claim that men can menstruate. No, men cannot menstruate. Women who claim to be men still menstruate because they’re still women whether they like it or not.
Let’s be bluntly honest here: If you were born with a penis, you’re male. If you were born with a vagina, you’re female. If you were born with both then you’re a hermaphrodite and your life is likely complicated through no fault of your own.
Having hormone treatments and surgery does not change the fact that you’re either XX or XY. You cannot escape it. The aforementioned hermaphrodite is an exception to this, having an extra X chromosome along with the typical XY. To my knowledge, this is the only natural exception in humans. Changing your birth certificate does not change your gender. Sex change surgery (aka genital mutilation) doesn’t change it either. You cannot overcome nature.
Oh, and I’ll toss in drag queens here as well, because these guys add to the confusion of young children trying to figure out their own identities. Keep these goofy motherfuckers away from our schools and away from our children. Are they part of a vast left-wing conspiracy to screw with the minds of kids? Maybe, maybe not. I’m not one to speculate on conspiracy theories. But they have no business around our young people. Life is confusing enough for kids without these freaks performing outside of a circus sideshow.
Given the behavior of these people and their wild claims about gender and sexuality, one must assume that this is yet another expression of a mental problem. Normal people just don’t act this way, imho. And this by the way does not include the gay community at large. Most gays from what I have seen are just everyday people who want nothing to do with the craziness. And sexual orientation is proven to be a genetic predisposition, meaning that homosexuality is just as natural, if not as frequent, as heterosexuality.
Religious Extremism

Holy shit people, the religious right is off its collective rocker. I mean, you gotta be mildly off-center to believe in gods and ghosts and such anyway. But some (not all) of these people are becoming dangerous. I’m not just talking about suicide bombers and head-chopper-offers. I’m talking about Evangelical Christians. Muslims no longer have the extremist market cornered.
People like Kenneth Copeland, Jesse Duplantis, Greg Locke and others rage on your TV sets and youtube about how Satanism and sinfulness are taking over the world. Kat Kerr claims to wield the power of God to deflect hurricanes and change elections. Greg Locke actually claimed that his congregation had been infiltrated by witches. And the gullible among us believe this stuff. I have close friends, people I love and care about, who swallow this tripe whole and beg for more. It breaks my heart.
Ken Ham uses his massive facility in Kentucky to promote lies and pseudoscience about the origins of life on Earth and his sick fantasy about an ancient global flood. He and his associates seek to either twist solid science to suit their “teaching” or they try to show science as a mass conspiracy against their god. The result is millions of people who have no true understanding of nature and who blindly believe that something aside from oblivion awaits them when they die. Ken Ham cares nothing about the truth. He’s a businessman, and gullible believers are his herd of cash cows.
The Evangelical movement, and the so-called “prosperity gospel” promote and exacerbate ignorance, gullibility and resulting mental instability among innocent people for the financial benefit of a comparative handful of swindlers.
Crazy Politics
Ah jeez, what a mess. All of the above issues have been thoroughly politicized at every level of government. Why? Because politicians need votes and money to retain their cushy jobs. They don’t give two shits about the people they govern or supposedly represent. They pay lip service to people’s needs while rarely ever providing real solutions. Why? Because they need us to be helpless. They need problems to blame each other for so they can compete for our votes.
And in one election after another we keep voting for whomever best patronizes us. We become less likely to question or challenge. We just accept the pablum they feed us. That’s not a sign of being mentally alert. It’s the behavior of a subdued slave. Look at the upcoming presidential election. The two frontrunners are a future jailbird and a senile Socialist who couldn’t manage a lemonade stand. And both have their share of rabid followers. Who in their right mind would vote for either?
And then there’s QANON. Christ on a cracker – people still believe this stuff. At least no one has shot up another pizza parlor…lately. But with the massive amounts of gullible people who subscribe to this grand conspiracy theory something crazy is bound to happen. If Trump winds up behind bars then the crazies will likely come out in force. And I don’t use “crazies” rhetorically here. QANONers tend to be stark raving, slack jawed, drooling, bug-eyed nuts. Same, to a slightly lesser degree, can be said of those who believe the rantings of Alex Jones. If Trump is imprisoned, whether he’s guilty or a victim of a leftist conspiracy (you decide – I’m not going there), there will be blood in the streets.
So How Does It All End?

There are lots of ways. Vladimir Putin might hit the big red button. Terrorists might release an incurable pathogen into the atmosphere. Maybe we screw up the environment so bad that the ice caps melt and we all become fish food. Perhaps WWIII will render the world uninhabitable. Those last two would be a shame because the rest of nature is not at fault. I want penguins and platypuses to survive. And armadillos. Armadillos are cool. And fox bats. But people? Nah.
OK that’s it. I could keep digging out more reasons to think we’re becoming mental midgets but I’ve at least hit the high spots. Is there a solution to this? Can we stave off our own demise for at least awhile? Maybe. Those of us who have not fallen victim to political, social or religious extremism must behave rationally. We must lead by example and not allow ourselves to fall down any of the rabbit holes in our paths.
I’ve learned that it’s nearly impossible to salvage anyone who’s already been swallowed up by the myriad unhealthy influences out there. They become immune to logic. This is especially true of QANONers and religious people. But we can work to steer others clear of such hazards. And we can seek out those running for office who are not beholden to either the far right or far left and work to put them in office. Saner government means a saner nation because saner laws get passed. Know the beliefs of a person before deciding how to vote, because people’s actions are dictated by their beliefs.

Enjoyed reading your post. My response is that humans can do very well in limited conditions, where they live in stable societies where stress is low, climate is good, people are safe, crops are growing well, there is no threat from competitors or overpopulation. But if conditions change and the society is under stress their behavior become unstable. That is where we find ourselves today in the United States. We are living in conditions we are not made to live in. So we malfunction and our behavior becomes erratic, unsteady, irrational, and deadly. The bad news is that it is probably going to get worse. Unless, of course, they get better. Hope they get better!

People tend to be not as strong as they were a few decades ago. When times get tough many folks tend to look for someone to blame rather than working toward a solution. And their behavior has become more extreme as time goes by. That’s why I feel we have first and foremost a mental health issue. People just come apart under the least amount of stress.
